Anomalous snowstorm in Argentina: 2 meters of snow and 20 degrees below zero

There is currently an extreme and anomalous snowstorm sweeping through the Argentinian Andes.

School classes have been suspended after more than 2 meters of snow and a temperature of -20 °C engulfed the high mountains.

This biblical snowfall forced schools to close down and a red alert to be issued after huge amount of snow fell down and accumulated.

Although most of the schools reopened on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, classes will still be suspended tomorrow in the high mountain areas such as Valle del Sol, Las Vegas, El Salto, Polvaredas and Puente del Inca.

In Las Cuevas, thermometers recorded -20 °C and a snow accumulation of more than two meters.

For the moment, only minor injuries have been reported – hand cut, dislocated knee – from people falling from roofs while trying to remove the snow.

Worst flooding in decades for Tasmania

Northern Tasmania faces worst flooding in decades.

Hundreds of people are evacuated in Devonport, Launceston, Wynyard and Deloraine.

This is one of the worst flooding experienced by Tasmania since 1929, when flooding in Launceston left several people dead.

Northern Tasmania is grappling with the most devastating flooding it has experienced in decades after a severe weather system that devastated Queensland and New South Wales hit the state on Monday.

By Monday night more than 100 people in Latrobe had been evacuated by helicopter and boat.

3,500 homes without power and significant livestock losses at dairy farms along the Mersey river have also been reported.

Two elderly person are missing.

The dead body of an old woman was found swept away by flood waters:




A flood watch is in place for all Tasmanian river basins, with some areas experiencing in excess of 200mm of rainfall.
