If you had any doubts about the scale of frankenstorm Sandy, check out NASA's latest global Earth image to see its size compared to the entire planet. We are now updating this post with images, video and warnings from NASA, NOAA and other sources as they arrive.
Update 21: NOAA is warning that Sandy is moving "more quickly" towards New Jersey shore. They just posted an animated GIF showing the progression. Seems like New Jersey is going to get pounded a bit harder than the rest. They also say that there will be "Blizzard conditions too where Hurricane Sandy meets an upper-level system. Up to 2-3 feet [of snow] possible!"
New York is flooding already and the storm is not in full force yet. Some parts of the FDR—Franklin D. Roosevelt East River Drive, the highway that runs along Manhattan east side—are flooded. Check out this picture. Sandy could really flood the subway system.
According to NOAA, "Sandy is expected to bring life-threatening conditions (...) intensify as it interacts with an upper level system moving from the Great Lakes." The northeast region "may experience a widespread damaging storm, possibly of historic proportions".
The agency says "Sandy is expected to slam into the New Jersey coast later monday night, bringing heavy rain and damaging winds" to all areas. They warn that you shouldn't pay attention to the center of the storm, as all areas will have significant impact.
You can share your photos of the frankenstorm here. Don't put yourself at risk to take any, though. This thing is looking quite scary now. Be safe.
