The Power of Love ~ Every Encounter Teaches us Something
Sometimes you meet people that
inspire you even more, and have such a great impact on you without even
knowing it, just through their way of being in their everyday life. They
can totally transform you.
Last month I had been reading
particularly about unconditional Love, what it is, how to feel it more.
It’s really hard to be able to love even those who hurt you or hurt
others, to forgive. It’s something really hard sometimes for me, as I am
a very sensitive person and can not stand injustice. I am often tempted
to hate on for example people that torture innocent animals. I just
can’t stand this idea and have murder compulsions myself! (on them). But
I understand more and more why responding with the same violence as the
people who do bad is useless and also harmful.
I understand that this is not with
anger that you can fight anger. This is not with hate that you can fight
hate. This is not with meanness that you can fight meanness. Only Love
can change the situation.
Be careful, “love” doesn't mean you
have to become a doormat, and not defend yourself. It means to not be
drown to that same low level of vibration where our “aggressor” is. If a
person is angry at you, (because HE has a problem), then why would you
want to jump into that anger and suffer too? negative emotions are Hell,
and we really can not do or say anything useful (for you or anybody
else) from this place. You suffer and you don’t solve the problem.
If, instead, your attitude
demonstrates peace of mind, serenity, trust in yourself, ability to
control yourself, understanding, kindness, don’t you think it’s a way
greater impact you will leave on the person? Way greater than anything
you could have said under the emotion of anger or hate. (I know it’s not
always easy though, but it’s important to understand this).
I was reading more and more about
this and practicing it more and more in my life, when I met the mother
of the man that shares my life. It’s like if all my books transformed
into one person and became HER. She’s like LOVE reincarnated. I just
have to watch her speak, act, think, to understand what unconditional
love is, how is it when you have no ego anymore, and to understand that
the most important thing is never to be right, but to be kind.
I am very lucky to be able to spend
a lot of time with her when I’m in Paris, and she came to visit us for 3
weeks, now that we are in LA. She’s with us right now, and without
knowing it, she’s one of my biggest teachers.
His son suffers from a heavy
illness called muscular dystrophy (Duchenne) and is in a wheelchair,
unable to move any part of his body besides his fingers. She volunteers
for various associations and basically devotes her whole Life to others.
Her attitude towards life, her kind words, her actions, her consistent
smile despite all the really hard conditions she’s living, is a true
source of inspiration to me and to everybody that meets her. I sincerely
believe she transforms everybody that crosses her road, without even
knowing it. She always focuses on the good in others, never the bad; and
by doing that, people give her more of what’s good in them. By focusing
on the bad, the contrary happens, more of what you don’t like is given
to you. She’s able to love unconditionally, each and every one,
regardless of their nationality, ethnicity, religion, age, physique or
attitude. She taught me that being kind is a huge strength and not a
weakness. That it is safe to be kind, and not dangerous like we often
think. In fact, she puts so much trust and gives so much kindness to
people that they feel they have to honor it, even if at first they may
have been not so well-meaning people. She believes in those values, and
she will never change, no matter how others act.
Sometimes, I wish she could think about herself more. But I don’t think I will ever be able to change her :).
She honestly transforms every body
that meets her, and she shows me how much of an impact we can have on
others, and consequently, on the world. What she is, had an impact on
me, which I will pass on to others, who will pass it on to others too.
That’s the butterfly effect. That’s why everything that we say and do
has a direct consequence to the world. We are all responsible for the
impact we leave to the world. There is always somebody that hears or
sees you and that will be touched or influenced by your negative or
positive attitude and words. It’s up to you to decide which butterfly
effect you want to create on earth.
The power of Love is Huge. I
understand it more and more. It’s a real work to make on yourself,
specially if you have not been raised like this, or if you’ve been
raised in fear of others or of the world. Society makes everything
possible to keep us in that state of fear, through TV, movies, news,
magazines… it’s crazy. So it’s really up to us to build a new vision and
a new world for us and for everybody through our everyday actions,
thoughts and words, and through each one of our next encounters.
Now I want you to ask yourself some
questions: How do you interact with others? Would you honestly like to
be your friend? What could you improve? Which impact do you live on
others and on the planet? Which butterfly effect do you trigger?
