6.5 magnitude earthquake strikes South Pacific near Vanuatu

February 7, 2014 – VANUATU – No tsunami was generated from a magnitude 6.5 earthquake in the South Pacific near Vanuatu, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said. The United States Geological Survey said the earthquake struck at 9:40 p.m. Thursday Hawaii time, 8:40 a.m. in Vanuatu. It was centered 16 miles east of Port-Olry, Vanuatu and 401 miles north of We, New Caledonia at a depth of 73.2 miles. There were no immediate reports of serious injuries or damage. –Reuters
