Norwegian environmental researchers have created a house that takes full advantage of nature’s gifts to generate energy.
The most extraordinary feature of the home is easily its roof, which is tilted to collect water and covered in solar cells to produce both heat and electricity.
Its windowed and stone walls maximize natural light and stabilize temperatures while indoor heat gets recycled for hot water.
Envisioned by the Research Center on Zero Emission Buildings and designed by architects from company Snøhetta, the home was made to prove that we don’t necessarily have to live in grass huts in order to cut greenhouse gases.
The Larvik, Norway model has been nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture, or the Mies van der Rohe Award.
