Here’s A Time-Lapse Of The Perseids — The Most Stunning Meteor Shower Of The Year

Many meteor showers are shy and fickle, but not the Perseids. They vie with the December Geminids for the title of the richest and most reliable of the year. This week they came through again — if you were out late under a dark sky.



The Perseid meteor shower comes around every year as Earth passes through the debris left in the wake of Comet Swift-Tuttle, a 6-mile-wide (10 kilometers) body that orbits the sun every 133 years. This year, that crossing happened during a new moon — unlike last year, where the peak of the shower occurred during a bright, nearly full moon that obscured the would-be show.
Here is a time-lapse video of the stunning display of meteors, occurring once or twice every minute in the skies over Wales.
