zolkin Trecena Notes –1 Ix (Jaguar)
Day 14 of the 260 Day Tzolkin
Gregorian Date: July 28, 2012
Year Bearer: 13 Caban (Earth)
Trecenas are thirteen-day periods in the Tzolkin. Each Trecena starts with the Number 1, but with a different Day Glyph. As a wave of the Thirteen Heavens, the underlying energy is governed by the First Day Glyph of the Trecena and influences all thirteen successive Day Glyphs. Being aware of the predominant energy of the First Day of the Trecena, we can align our intentions with that energy and allow our goals to manifest.
This Trecena starts with 1 Ix (Jaguar) – Secretive, Astute, Strong, Powerful, Nocturnal Shaman. Ruling spirit of jungles and mountains, Guardian of earthly magic, the Night Sun that travels the underworld invisible and opposite the Day Sun ruled by the Eagle.
To the Maya, Jaguar’s spotted skin symbolized the stars of the Milky Way Galaxy. The birthplace of First Father in the mouth of Jaguar was known to the Quiche Maya as Xibalba Be (shi bal ba bay) “the Road to the Underworld.” The Sun’s daily journey from light to darkness represents consciousness and its transformation. The Nocturnal Sun in the guise of the Jaguar travels through the underworld revealing our subconscious fears and allowing them to be transformed.

Jaguar energy signifies feminine and feline energy and relates to the earthly primal spiritual forces within all living creatures. The Maya referred to this energy as Itz or “dew from heaven” which connects cosmic divinity with the spark of our own earthly divinity. Jaguar energy attunes our inner instincts with the spiritual power of Itz.
Carlos Barrios in Book of Destiny says “Of all the signs, Ix expands the mind the most, providing the strength to reach the highest level of consciousness. This strength, combined with mental acuity, benefits the highest levels of mysticism.” He describes Ix energy: “This day has a special power to change negative aspects. It is a day on which to withdraw, meditate, and reconsider life, to formulate a new strategy, and to solve problems. It is also a good day for inner strength and for magic and handling occult forces.”
Another representation of the Trecena is that of a creative wave beginning at 1 and ending at 13, with the numbers 6, 7 and 8 representing the crest of the wave. The crest could be interpreted as a strong influential energy, although the underlying influence on the Trecena would still rest in the beginning. Jaguar energy underlies (or influences) the days of 6 Cauac, gathering storm energies; 7 Ahau, flowering in the light of the sun; and 8 Imix, life giving force resonating from the primal depths. This crest is very powerful for transformation as the Ix Trecena ends with Cimi which symbolizes Death, Transformation or Rebirth. Jaguar energy offers strength and magic along with intuitive wisdom for humanity to follow the Maya path of transformation or renewal: the sacrifice or surrender of the illusion; the reconnection of the ego to its higher source; and the awakening to truth.

Utilize the energy of Jaguar to follow your intuition. Allow your feelings and heart to guide your actions and movements, thus creating the natural pattern, the Flower of Life.
