Bee hotels are making a huge impact for the better. Easy to build, they keep wild bees safe and warm all winter and provide a safe refuge away from pets and kids.  Build one near your garden and keep your own pollinators nearby.

Native bees are losing habitat at a dramatic rate and this is leading to a huge decline in population. You can help save these bees by creating a house for them in your garden. The bees will gladly thank you by pollinating your garden!

Bee hotels have been around for a while, but are most popular in France.  These micro environments make a positive impact, can be put anywhere … and look magnificent!

You can use just about any natural material. My favorite are big logs that I haven’t burned over the winter and sticks that I find along my nature walks.

Bee hotels are usually made out of some sort of box or container that is filled with sticks, pinecones, bamboo shoots, or logs with drilled holes in them. These homes provide choices for bees and give them with shelter. Building a “bee hotel” only take a little bit of effort and material you probably already have.

How to build an insect hotel

Here is the basic idea on how to create your own this spring.  You can create these wonderful hotels out of old clay pots, free pallets, old crates, or create your own unique bee hotel out of new materials to fit in with your home design.
