It is a city undergoing severe drought, so the much needed rain should have been welcome but not with such a tragic loss of life.
This is the chaos of El-Niño, months of drought followed by rain storms of Biblical proportions dumping enormous amounts of rain in one place too quickly, causing immense amounts of damage.
At least 21 people were killed on Thursday night by landslides provoked by heavy rains and floods in the urban area of Sao Paulo, the city's fire department announced on Friday.
One landslide in the town of Mairipora left four people dead and seven others injured.
In the municipality of Francisco Morato, nine people died in two separate landslides linked to the rain, while two others died, in the areas of Guarulhos and Cajamar respectively.
The storm that tore through the city on Thursday night also closed the international airport of Guarulhos for six hours.
Numerous train stations across the city were also closed, after the Tiete and Pinheiros rivers overflowed their banks.
On Friday morning, traffic in the city was snarled as authorities scrambled to fix the damage. According to the fire department, at least 20 towns in Sao Paulo state were affected.
The state's Emergency Management Center also said on Friday that Sao Paulo had received 40 percent of its average monthly rainfall in just over a day.

Records tumble as 14 inches, (355 mm) of rain in 24 hours almost 200% more than the average total for the entire month of March is dumped parts of Louisiana

EPIC "Biblical Flooding" underway Globally Untitled

Incredible amounts of rain have been dumped on parts of Louisiana and eastern Texas this week.
Some areas saw over 14 inches (355 mm) of rain in 24 hours, which is almost 200% more than the average total for the entire month of March in Louisiana, the average for March in one month is around 5.1 inches and (130mm).
Parts of Texas feared just as bad with incredible amounts of rainfall this week, with more heavy rain forecast until Friday 11 March.
Further Heavy Rain Expected Due to the slow movement of the storm, heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue to affect many of the same areas until Friday 11 March, NWS said.
Flash flood watches were in place for parts of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri and southern Illinois.

Accu weather report Drenching rains led to dangerous flash flooding across parts of the south-central United States during the middle of the week.
The highest rainfall totals were reported in northwestern Louisiana where states of emergencies were declared in 16 parishes.
Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards later expanded the state of emergency to the entire state.
Emergency officials responded to numerous water rescues while also directing residents to evacuate when necessary.
Over 1,000 homes have been evacuated.
The Associated Press reported that five people died as a result of drowning this week, including three in Louisiana.
Two additional deaths were reported in Texas and Oklahoma.
The flooding caused many state and local roadways to become impassable, with some chunks of roads washing away in Bossier Parish.
The Louisiana National Guard was called in to help with evacuations and search and rescue operations.
State offices were closed in 40 parishes due to the worsening conditions as flash flood emergencies remained in effect during late week.

Accumulated rainfall way beyond 'normal'
Wednesday saw 50 times the average rain the country gets every March over the past decade.
The UAE on Wednesday saw one of the highest rainfalls it has had in recent years, with a day’s rain in Al Shuwaib equivalent to more than 50 times the average rain the country gets every March over the past decade.
Hours of heavy thunderstorms and torrential rains on Monday, Tuesday, and especially Wednesday, that saw many parts of the country reeling in floodwaters.
One place in particular, drew the most amount of rainfall: Al Shuwaib, a town in Abu Dhabi to the border of Oman, north of Al Ain.
“On Wednesday, the total amount of rainfall was recorded 287.6 mm at Al Shuwaib, which is highest amount of rainfall ever recorded in 24 hours and is way above normal,” a forecaster from the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) told Gulf News.
If we calculate, the rain collected in Al Shuwaib on Wednesday is 51 times more than the average amount of rainfall the country got in March from 2003 to 2014, figures from NCMS’ Climate Year Report.

Never Before Has America Been Hit By So Many Historic Floods In Such a Short Period Of Time

Posted on March 12, 2016 by Michael Snyder
EPIC "Biblical Flooding" underway Globally Flooding-Public-Domain-460x324The United States has been hit by seven historic floods since the month of September, and the latest one is making headlines all over the planet.  This week, nearly two feet of rain triggered record-setting flooding in parts of Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi, and more rain is expected for the area as we move into the weekend.  Flooding along one part of the Sabine River has already broken the previous record by more than five feet, and this crisis is far from over.  Of course this just continues a trend that I have been documenting for months now.  Never before in U.S. history have we ever seen so many historic floods in such a compressed time frame.
The area right along the Texas/Louisiana border is a complete and total disaster right now.  The following report about what the region is currently experiencing comes from weather.com…
This multi-day heavy rain saga, which has dumped up toalmost two feet of rain in parts of the South, is still triggering destructive flash flooding, and has driven or will drive some rivers to historic levels in the days ahead.
Record flooding is already occurring along a stretch of the Sabine River, and will move downstream into next week along the Texas/Louisiana border, due to record releases from Toledo Bend Reservoir, first put in service in 1966.
The river already crushed a previous record crest nearBurkeville, Texas by over 5 feet, and that crest is headed downstream for the town of Deweyville, Texas, where it may top the previous unofficial record crest from 1884 by over a foot, flooding numerous homes and leaving the town isolated.
Let us pray for the people living down there, because what is happening is absolutely tragic.
Unfortunately, this is just the latest in a series of historic floods that we have witnessed over the past six months.
Let’s review…
October: Hurricane Joaquin never makes landfall, but it tracks up the east coast of the United States causing nightmarish rainfall and flooding all over the eastern seaboard.  Things were particularly bad in South Carolina, where the governor declared that it was the worst rainfall that many areas of her state had seen in 1,000 years.
October: Violent storms in southern California caused flash flooding that buried some highways in “rivers of mud” that were up to six feet deep.  Hundreds of vehicles got buried in the fast moving mud, and the lifeless body of one man that had his vehicle completely buried by several feet of mud was recovered only after a few days had passed because that is how long it took emergency workers to dig him out.
October: Hurricane Patricia was the second most intense tropical cyclone ever recorded in the entire world, and remnants from that storm caused absolutely horrible flooding in some parts of Texas.  The flood waters were moving so fast at one point that a freight train was actually knocked entirely off the tracks.
November-December: A “conveyor belt” of violent storms barreled into coastal areas of Oregon and Washington causing nightmarish flooding in many areas.  The resulting landslides and floods made headlines all over the country, and it is going to be a long time before the region fully recovers.  In early December we witnessed the wettest day in the history of Portland, Oregon, and things were also extremely bad at that time up in the Seattle area.
January: The middle part of the country experienced record-breaking flooding as the calendar rolled over from 2015 to 2016.  The only thing that people could really compare it to was the great flood of 1993, and Missouri Governor Jay Nixon said that some communities saw floodwaters get to“places they’ve never been before”.  Normally, if the middle of the country is going to see flooding like this it is going to take place when the snow begins to thaw in the spring.  For something like this to happen in the middle of the winter was absolutely unprecedented.
January: On January 22nd, one of the worst east coast blizzards in history slammed into Washington D.C., New York City and other major metropolitan areas.  More than three feet of snow was dumped on some areas, hundreds of thousands of people were left without power, and coastal cities all long the eastern seaboard experienced flooding that was described as “worse than Hurricane Sandy“.  It is also interesting to note that this storm was known as “Jonas”, which is actually a Greek transliteration of the Hebrew name “Jonah”.  Jonah, of course, was a Hebrew prophet that was sent to the capital city of Assyria (Ninevah) to warn that the judgment of God was coming.  Well, it turns out that this storm called Jonas also hit our capital city (Washington D.C.) on the exact anniversary of Roe v. Wade and in the exact location where Roe v. Wade was decided.
All of these historic floods have hit America since the end of September, and now we can add these new floods in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi to the list.
Never before in all of U.S. history have we ever seen a series of catastrophic floods like this within such a concentrated space of time.
Why is this happening?
Is this just some sort of bizarre coincidence?
Are we looking at the effects of climate change or shifting weather patterns?
Could it be possible that what we are watching is actually the judgment of God as some are suggesting?
The United States has never seen anything like this before.
Clearly something is happening.
So what do you think that “something” is?
Please feel free to share your thoughts by posting a comment below…

Rains continue to wreak havoc and claim 19 deaths in Pakistan

Torrential rains accompanied by flashfloods have killed at least 20 people over the last two days in northwestern and southwestern Pakistan, officials and local media reported on Saturday.
Most of the fatalities have been reported from the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KP) and the southwestern Balochistan provinces, where heavy rainfall and flashflooding have isolated entire villages, damaged roads and caused homes to collapse.
The current death toll includes at least eight children, according to local health officials.
Local television channels showed gushing rainwater inundating homes - with residents taking refuge on rooftops - in Quetta, Zhob, Taank, Pishin, Loralai, Chaman, Chagai, Mastung and other districts. Accompanied by thunder and hailstorms, heavy rainfall caused several homes to collapse in the Mastung, Khyber Agency, Chagai and Zhob districts, killing 12 people and injuring scores of others. Grabbing whatever they could salvage, local residents in effected areas - including women and children - could be seen wading through knee-deep water in search of higher ground.
Dozens of mud homes have been entirely washed away by surging flashfloods, forcing local administrators in flood-hit districts to direct residents to schools and other government buildings. Torrential rain coupled with high winds uprooted trees and electricity towers in affected areas, causing wide-ranging power outages, the local Capital TV channel reported.
The Pakistan Metrological Office, for its part, has issued a flood warning for several parts of KP province, warning that the rainy spell would likely go on for another two days.
The authorities fear outbreaks of disease in flood-hit areas, where marooned residents have been forced to drink rainwater and eat unhygienic food.
