Police forces Wednesday morning responded to a shooting at an engineering lab at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) that left two people dead.
Students and faculty at the campus were told to shelter in place after the shooting was reported at Boelter Hall. “Shooting at Engineering 4. Go to secure location and deny entry (lockdown) now!” the university said in a message on Twitter shortly before 10:00 a.m. PT.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed two people were killed in the incident.
The shooting suspect has been described as a white male wearing a black jacket and black pants, according to the university’s newspaper, The Daily Bruin.
“Sources say suicide note was found near two people down,” Fox 11 News reporter Gigi Graciette tweeted. Sources also told NBC Los Angeles that police had found a handgun.

“It is certainly possible that one of the victims is a shooter, but we do not know that yet,” UCLA police chief James Herren said during a press conference.
SWAT teams and agents from Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded to the incident.
Mehwish Khan, a UCLA student, told the Los Angeles Times that the “whole campus just started running and I started running too.”
“Everyone was very confused. We got in a building, and no one knew what was going on,” she said.

The Los Angeles Police Department went on a “city-wide tactical alert” after the campus shooting.
