Jim Carrey To Face Trial For Wrongful Death Of Girlfriend



Jim Carrey has been ordered to face trial for the wrongful death of his girlfriend Cathriona White.
Carrey gave Cathriona White three STIs and provided plied her with prescription drugs that led to her suicide, according to her parents.
A judge confirmed a trial would go ahead over claims the actor, 55, used his ‘wealth, influence and celebrity status’ to provide the prescription drugs on which Cathriona White, 30, overdosed.
The Irish make-up artist’s husband Mark Burton and her mother Brigid Sweetman are suing the Dumb And Dumber star in Los Angeles.

Daily Mail reports: Michael Avenatti, who represents the pair, said, ‘In light of the court’s recent rulings entirely in our favour, we look forward to the trial in April.
‘The public deserves to know the truth.’
Carrey’s lawyer Raymond Boucher had asked Los Angeles Superior Court to strike out the case.

But Judge Deirdre Hill ruled that Carrey should face a jury over the claims of wrongful death and allegations under the Drug Dealer Liability Act.
Jim Carrey has failed in his attempt to get a wrongful death lawsuit over his ex-girlfriend’s suicide thrown out of court.
She also ruled against Carrey’s privacy request and said the jury should hear medical evidence regarding claims that he gave Ms White three sexually transmitted diseases.
Court documents detailed texts between the pair, in which White said she was concerned about STIs, and Carrey sought to reassure her.
White, who began dating The Mask actor in 2012, contracted both herpes and chlamydia in 2013.
Carrey reportedly dismissed claims that he transmitted them to her and said she had contracted them from someone else.
Following the confrontation, the pair broke up, with Carrey sending her a text message saying: ‘You have become too much drama.’


A letter from White was also shown, in which she told Carrey she felt she had been ‘disrespected, degraded, called a w***e, an opportunist, threatened.’
She continued: ‘I will always be damaged goods, have a stigma attached.’
It was not clear when the letter was written.

Mr Boucher denied that Carrey would now attempt to settle the case, adding: ‘We are preparing for trial.’
Carrey also dropped a request for Ms Sweetman to put a bond of 372,000 dollars (£290,000) aside to go towards the comedian’s costs if he is successful in fending off the case.
Mr Boucher wrote to the court asking for the request to be dismissed on the basis that Ms Sweetman lacks the means to pay and is ill.
Ms White, from Cappawhite, Co Tipperary, was found dead in her Los Angeles home in September 2015.
Canadian-born Carrey previously dismissed the allegations as ‘malicious’ and ‘predatory’.
The 20-day trial is due to begin on April 26.

Is Jim Carrey Responsible For His Ex-Girlfriend’s Death?

Jim Carrey’s relationship with Catriona White was rocky from the outset, with an on-off relationship since 2012.
According to a lengthy declaration in court back in October 2016, Carrey said the following about Catriona:
“Between 2012 and 2015, I was involved in two romantic relationships with Cathriona White,” he began his declaration.
“Although there were times during this period we were broken up, for much of the time between 2012 and 2015 we were together as a couple, including after she reached out to me in November 2014 to reconcile and resume out relationship which lasted until her death.”
According to People magazine, White reached out to Carrey for a reconciliation just two days after Jim’s appearance on Kimmel.
Although Ms. White suffered from depression, Carrey claims that she was never suicidal before the November 2014 reconciliation.
In a 10-page court declaration, Carrey noted that his late girlfriend had secretly married another man while they were still in a relationship.
“To my surprise, I later learned that in January 2013, Cat married a man in Las Vegas for her green card, while at the same time maintaining her actual relationship with me,”
