(Natural News) In a stunning statement that adds further weight to many of the questions raised by Natural News and other independent media leaders — the only remaining real journalists in America — Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo publicly affirmed his belief that Stephen Paddock did not act alone.
“…[H]e had to have some help at some point,” Sheriff Lombardo is now quoted as saying by the UK Express.
Natural News and other independent media outlets have been the only investigative journalists in the country to ask real questions that expose the gaping holes in the “official” narrative of what happened at the Mandalay Bay massacre. Websites like SGTreport.com,TheEconomicCollapseBlog.com and The Daily Sheeple have detailed the ludicrousness of the official story with articles like “MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: Official story of Las Vegas shooting unravels; physical impossibility of lone gunman senior citizen makes narrative ludicrous.” Michael Snyder has also published, “16 Unanswered Questions About The Las Vegas Shooting That The Mainstream Media Doesn’t Want To Talk About.”
Now, Sheriff Lombardo echoes that very story in saying, “Maybe he was a superhuman who figured this out all on his own but it would be hard for me to believe that.”
This statement affirms exactly what I wrote on Natural News just two days ago, saying, “The only way he could have carried out this shooting is if he were transformed into a human superweapon through a magic wand. I’m calling this ‘Mission IMPOSSIBLE’ because of the physical impossibility of a retired, untrained senior citizen pulling this off.”

The fact that law enforcement is now supporting the contention that Stephen Paddock did not act alone throws a curve ball to the FBI, which claims they somehow pulled of a miraculous investigation that cleared Paddock of ties to international terrorism groups, all in a record time of less than twelve hours. The astonishing speed of the FBI’s announcement confirms they are lying, of course. The FBI can barely complete an office memo in 12 hours, much less conduct an exhaustive investigation into international terrorism in that time frame.
Informed Americans, already suspicious of the FBI’s involvement in allowing Hillary Clinton to get away with committing multiple felony crimes via destruction of her classified emails, are now beginning to wonder whether the FBI is now actively covering up the truth about the Las Vegas Mandalay Bay shooting.

Caller on the Michael Savage show describes TWO shooters, including one who walked through the crowd, spraying gunfire in every direction

To date, dozens of eyewitnesses have gone public with their belief that multiple shooters were involved, spraying them with gunfire from multiple directions. Earlier today, a caller to the Michael Savage show offered intimate details into her harrowing escape under fire — (and unlike Hillary Clinton, this woman was actually under real sniper fire) — where she was forced to hide while others were gunned down all around her. According to this caller, a second gunman firing a distinctive “low-sounding” gun was walking through the crowd, spraying gunfire in every direction while approaching her concealed position.

There was somebody walking in the crowd, spraying their guns back and forth and shooting people, and he was getting closer. The shots would stop, the officer got up and walked out, and I heard his radio because I was right there, and we heard, “We have active shooters,” and then my officer who was protecting me said, “Where is he? Where is he? Do you see him? Is he behind us? Do you have a visual?
It sounded like somebody was actually walking from the crowd, from west to east, through the crowd and shooting, because everybody was going one direction, because there was no way out. Then they would stop, and there would be higher pitches, and then no sound, and then the sound would start again, and they were on top of each other… they sounded at the same time, and the one that was lower kept getting closer sounding to us… I’m thinking, Oh my God, it sounds like there’s somebody on the ground that is shooting… Mandalay Bay was on our right, and the girl that was standing right beside me got shot straight in her stomach, and how did this bullet come straight down and make a left turn and hit her in the stomach?

Australian man staying in room next door claims “Multiple shooters”

In addition to the audio testimony detailed above, the Courier Mail (Australia) interviewed Brian Hodge, who said he was staying at the room next door to the alleged shooter Stephen Paddock. Via the Courer Mail:
Australian Brian Hodge, who previously worked at Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast, claimed he was staying in the room next to the shooter on level 32 at the Las Vegas resort.
There were multiple people dead and multiple shooters. I was just hiding waiting for police to come get us… My floor is a crime scene. They killed a security guard on my floor.
Using the word “they,” Brian Hodge is referring to the multiple shooters, not the police. This is yet another gripping testimony that adds weight to the evidence that multiple shooters were involved.
The FBI, of course, maintains the “lone gunman” theory, almost invoking the same cover-up logic ripped right out of the assassination of JFK. Yet numerous eyewitnesses on the ground continue to speak up with testimonies and firsthand accounts of multiple shooters.

That Kansas City Star article, authored by Ian Cummings, is entitled, “FBI undercover stings foil terrorist plots — but often plots of the agency’s own making.”

This pattern and history of the FBI dreaming up mass terrorism plots in the United States brings up the obvious question: Was the Mandalay Bay shooting actually schemed up by the FBI in an attempted sting operation gone bad? And is the FBI now attempting to cover its tracks to avoid the massive backlash that would ensue if the truth about such a monumental failure were learned? There’s no evidence yet to suggest the FBI planned this attack, of course, but the criminality of former FBI head James Comey — combined with the FBI’s current suspicious behavior and suspicious cover-up — have many people beginning to ask a whole new question: Is the FBI somehow complicit in this heinous crime?

(For the record, I personally know several retired FBI agents who are outstanding individuals, and many agents within the FBI are determined, courageous, pro-America patriots who would never go along with such a nefarious plot. However, as with any federal agency, there are also other sub-groups within the FBI who abuse their power and operate with no such ethics. And there’s no denying the FBI was recently headed by a traitor and criminal cover-up artist named James Comey.)

The FBI is also withholding critical evidence and lying to all Americans

The FBI, of course, is withholding critical evidence, just as they did following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, after which the U.S. government seized all security video tapes and held them in perpetuity, making sure the public would never see them.
Among the evidence items currently being covered up by the FBI and hidden from the public:

• Ballistics details about the bullets recovered on the ground. What is their caliber? Are they all the same caliber? How many bullets have been recovered?
  
  
• Where is all the expended brass that should be on the floor of the hotel room of the supposed shooter? Instead of thousands of pieces of expended brass, the media is so far reporting only “dozens” of pieces of brass. How can a shooter fire thousands of rounds of ammunition but produce only a few dozen pieces of expended brass?
  
  
• Where is the video that we’ve all been told the shooter took of himself carrying out the shooting?
  
  
• Where is the rest of the audio from the police breaching the door of Paddock’s room? The audio that has so far been released to the public ends abruptly just as the door is breached. We never hear the actual confrontation between police and Stephen Paddock.
  
  
• Where is any supporting evidence to prove that Paddock shot himself in an act of suicide? Do the ballistics of the bullet in his head match his own gun? Why do many people suspect that Paddock was murdered and staged as a scapegoat by other military-trained or paramilitary individuals who actually carried out the sustained attack?
  
  
• What other materials were recovered in Stephen Paddock’s hotel room? The FBI isn’t releasing any details, even though unconfirmed rumors claim that the room was filled with Antifa material. That could be disinformation, but why won’t the FBI confirm or deny it?
  
  
• Why hasn’t the FBI told us how Paddock obtained his full-auto weapon? Was it self-modified in violation of federal law, or did he acquire it through the complex system involving the ATF, tax stamps and background checks?
  
  

Until the federal government starts sharing more details with the public, the real journalists of America — the independent media — will continue to ask legitimate, thoughtful questions about the tragic event that took the lives of 58 innocents. What We the People won’t stand for us being lied to yet again by an incompetent bureaucracy that seems to have been increasingly infiltrated by anti-American operatives who deliberately hide or destroy evidence in order to run their political narratives about the actual motivations behind the shooting.
Not only has America now arrived in an extremely disturbing moment in history where it’s no longer safe to attend an outdoor concert, but most of us have also lost any remaining faith in the FBI to tell the truth. (That credit goes to James Comey, a professional liar and deep state operative who covered up the crimes of Hillary Clinton and Obama regime officials such as Loretta Lynch.)
We pray for the victims of this shooting, and we honor the efforts of local law enforcement, first responders, and all the spontaneous heroes who helped save lives and shield the innocent. Vegas Shooter Investigators "Puzzled", Believe He Was Not Alone For Two Reasons

Two days ago, Clark County Sheriff Lombardo for the first time expressed his conviction that Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock had to have help at some point during the tragic mass shooting, either in the preparation or the execution stage, or both.
“Look at this. You look at the weapon obtaining the different amounts of tannerite available, do you think this was all accomplished on his own, face value? You got to make the assumption he had to have help at some point, and we want to insure that’s the answer. Maybe he’s a super guy... Maybe he’s super — that was working out this out on his own, but it will be hard for me to believe that.”
“Here’s the reason why, put one and one–two and two together, another residence in Reno with firearms, okay, electronics and everything else associated with larger amounts of ammo, a place in Mesquite, we know he had a girlfriend. Do you think this is all self-facing individual without talking to somebody, it was sequestered amongst himself.”

Additionally, Sheriff Lombardo suggested that far from a suicide mission, authorities had seen evidence that the shooter planned to survive and escape.
To be sure, the question whether Paddock was alone or coordinated with some, still unknown collaborator, has been one of the most hotly debated topics involving last Sunday's tragic Las Vegas shooting.
Now, providing further impetus to the speculation that Paddock was not alone, NBC News reports, citing senior law enforcement officials, that investigators are speculating that someone else may have been in the Las Vegas gunman's hotel room when he was registered there.
According to NBC, the investigators are "puzzled" by two discoveries: First, a charger was found that does not match any of the cellphones that belonged gunman, Stephen Paddock. And second, garage records show that during a period when Paddock's car left the hotel garage, one of his key cards was used to get into his room. While there are several possible explanations for these anomalies, investigators said they "want to get to the bottom of it."
It gets better: according to Paddock's IRS records, the gunman was not only a legacy millionaire, he was a successful gambler, earning at least $5 million in 2015. Some of that could be from other investments, but most of it was from gambling, officials told NBC.
Separately, and this goes to Paddock's potential ISIS links which the Islamic State has tripled down on over the past week, CNN reports that in addition to his frequent forays into casinos and gun shops, Las Paddock took 20 cruises, many of them in Europe and the Middle East. In addition to stops at ports in Spain, Italy, Greece, the cruises also stopped in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, according to information provided by a law enforcement source. Paddock's girlfriend, Marilou Danley, accompanied him on nine of the cruises.
Picking up on the narrative that Paddock may have hoped to use his car as a bomb, Paddock's car, a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Touring, was found in the hotel parking garage and contained 90 pounds of Tannerite and two suitcases filled with hundreds of rounds of ammunition. Authorities suspect the Tannerite was intended for use in target practice or to make the car explode if fired upon, according to information provided by the source. The information from the source was derived from intelligence obtained earlier this week. Authorities have since said that the vehicle contained 50 pounds of Tannerite.
That said, so far, investigators have found no evidence supporting a claim by ISIS that Paddock had converted to Islam and carried out the attack on the terror group's behalf, according to the information provided by the source. Paddock's girlfriend, Danley, has been unable to provide a motive for the mass killing, according to the information.
Finally, in the latest previously undisclosed discovery, the NYT reported that what some had assumed was a suicide note, was instead a notepad whose exact contents the authorities have yet to reveal. Sheriff Lombardo said that it contained numbers that were being analyzed for their relevance, and were "significant to the gunman"; the police are attempting to determine their meaning.
Paddock's motive for the worst mass shooting in US history still remains a mystery.

Aside from the absurd “official” narrative of the “Pyramid Sacrifice” massacre in Las Vegas being that 10 minutes of intermittent rifle fire by a single person wiped out a battalions worth of people 390 yard away, this report continues, Russian intelligence analysts continue to be amazed by the many links between the CIA and Stephen Paddock—and who have documented that Paddock was a CIA arms pilot delivering thousands of weapons to a Mexican drug cartel between 2006-2011 in what is now known as “Operation Fast and Furious”—and who used in these arms deliveries his 2004 Cirrus Design Corp SR20 single engine plane having the Aircraft Registration Number N5343M—and that FAA records show him owning from 2 June 2006 to 13 February 2010—but that is now owned by an American defense company named VOLANT—and whose motto on their website says: “SERVING THE U.S. INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY AND THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE”.
In 2014, this report explains, it was shockingly exposed by a leading newspaper in Mexico that the CIA had partnered with a top drug cartel—and that Washington Times revealed the CIA’s motivation for doing was due to the US government fearing that the Los Zetas drug cartel would mount a successful coup d’etat against the government of Felipe Calderon.





As to how Stephen Paddock first became involved with the CIA, this report continues, was through his father Benjamin Hoskins Paddock—who was a member of the “Chicago Outfit” during the 1950’s that was ruled over by one of the most feared mobsters in America named Sam Giancana.
Sam Giancana, also, this report explains, shared a woman named Judy Campbell with President John F. Kennedy, with popular American singer Frank Sinatra being the communication link between the two of them—but with Giancana becoming enraged with President Kennedy after the US Justice Department (headed by President Kennedy’s brother. Attorney General Robert Kennedy) began to target him and his criminal associates.
In 2014, this report details, a Sam Giancana hit man named James Files confessed to being one of the killers of President Kennedy stating that they were aided in this assassination by the CIA—with another Giancana mob associate named Jack Rubenstein (aka Jack Ruby) being the triggerman who killed the President Kennedy “patsy” assassin Lee Harvey Oswald.





After President Kennedy’s assassination, this report continues, Sam Giancana’s close ties to the CIA have been well documented—and included Giancana aiding the CIA with its many plots to kill Fidel Castro, and even more importantly, the CIA “arranging” to get Giancana crime associates out of US prisons.
One such Giancana crime associate aided by the CIA, this report details, was Benjamin Hoskins Paddock—who was known by Chicago police authorities to be part of that cities crime syndicate in the 1950’s—and whom, by 1960, had become a notorious bank robber who the FBIcaptured in Las Vegas, thereafter his being sentenced to serve 20 years in prison—but with, in 1968, the CIA breaking him out of the US Federal prison he was incarcerated in—thus causing the FBI to list him on their 10 Most Wanted List.

With the average time being 6 months before a person on the 10 FBI Most Wanted List is captured, this report continues, the CIA enabled Benjamin Hoskins Paddock to elude capture for 10 years until he was apprehended on 6 September 1978—and whose CIA aid saw him only being placed in prison for less than a year—but who after his release continued his criminal life becoming that by 1987 saw him facing life imprisonment—but that he was able to avoid by his mysteriously settling a US Federal government civil racketeering charge by going from broketo his paying $632,000, and, also, paying a criminal fine of $100,000—and being allowed to move to Texas where he died 10 years later, in 1998, at the age of 77.
Like his CIA protected father, too, this report continues, Stephen Paddock, also, had millions-of-dollars of unexplained wealth, and was always reported to be “upbeat and happy” when buying his weapons and supplies—but with some of his explosives now being reported may have been used in last years bombing spree in New York City.

Sheriff: Traffic stop turns up assault rifles, 900 rounds

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) — Federal agents are trying to determine why a man pulled over for speeding in Tennessee was carrying a cache of weapons including two submachine guns and 900 rounds of ammunition.
Deputies found Scott Edmisten, 43, of Johnson City, carrying a .357-caliber Magnum, a loaded .45-caliber semi-automatic, a .223-caliber fully automatic assault rifle, a .308-caliber fully automatic assault rifle, more than 900 rounds of ammunition, and survival equipment, Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal said.  
“Anytime you have several firearms and several hundred rounds of ammunition in a vehicle, that always causes a concern,” said Michael Knight, spokesman for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Authorities still haven’t determined why Edmisten was carrying all that firepower, but they “don’t see a connection” to recent mass shootings, Knight said.
The arrest came a day after Stephen Paddock killed 59 people and wounded more than 500 in Las Vegas, firing down on a music festival crowd from a high-rise hotel suite. Some of the 23 guns in the suite were equipped with devices that enable a rifle to fire continuously, like an automatic.
“It’s not connected to any of the other national incidents, but timing obviously was a concern,” Knight said.
Graybeal asked the ATF to help investigate the source of the automatic weapons, which weren’t registered and lack serial numbers. He told The Johnson City Press that Edmisten also had modified the AR rifles to make them automatics.
Knight said investigators are tracing where Edmisten’s weapons came from.
“Our priority is reducing violent crime on the front end, so that’s the other thing we’re looking at, along with motive: Were these items going to be used for a criminal act or were they just being transported from one area to another area?”
Graybeal said Edmisten threatened his arresting officer and lunged toward investigators trying to question him. He’s jailed without bond on charges of possessing prohibited weapons, speeding, and felony evading arrest. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.

Russian Mafia Link To Las Vegas Massacre Confirmed As Stephen Paddock Accomplice Captured

An alarming new Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) report circulating in the Kremlin today detailing more facts about the “Pyramid Sacrifice” massacre in Las Vegas states that an accomplice to the CIA arms smuggler Stephen Paddock (who orchestrated this mass killing) has been captured in the State of Tennessee while driving a vehicle containing identical “bump stock” equipped weapons used to kill and wound hundreds of people during this mass shooting, along with over 900 rounds of ammunition being found in this vehicle too—with all of the events surrounding this horrific tragedy now being linked to the 7 June arrest in Las Vegas of one of the most feared Russian Mafia leaders known to exist in the world today—and that explains why the then panicked Stephen Paddock, on 21 June, rushed to Henderson, Nevada, physicianDr. Steven Winkler to get a prescription for a powerful anti-anxiety drug.  [Note: Some words and/or phrases appearing in quotes in this report are English language approximations of Russian words/phrases having no exact counterpart.]











According to this report, but virtually unknown to the American public, Las Vegas is one of the major control centers of the vast international criminal organization known as the Russian Mafia—and who had fled to this desert gambling mecca in mass following Russia’s banning of all gambling in 2009.
Joining this mass exodus of Russia Mafia criminal operatives to Las Vegas, this report details, was one of its most feared leaders named Razhden Shulaya—but who, on 7 June 2017, was arrested by the FBI in Las Vegas, and who shattered his US nationwide criminal organization with the “Shulaya Indictment”—with the FBI, also, quickly removing Razhden Shulaya from Las Vegas and placing him under their highest security in New York City.
With the CIA’s long known ties with international criminal organizations having already having been established, this report says, the SVR was not surprised this past April (2017) when Wikileaks Vault 7 stunning revealed that the CIA was using Russian Mafia malware in one of its spyware programmes named “Grasshopper”—but that so angered President Trump, he ordered the FBI to take this criminal organization down, and who had previously been protected by the Obama regime for 8 years.







Having extensive ties in both the US and Israel (where the Russia Mafia controls the criminal underworld), this report notes, Razhden Shulaya, also, and for years, controlled a vast gun smuggling ring headed by Stephen Paddock—whom the SVR has established had been employed as an arms smuggling pilot in the CIA’s “Operation Cyclone” programme to arm and finance the Jihadi warriors (mujahedeen) in Afghanistan with flights based from Pakistan during the late 1980’s. 
In agreeing with Las Vegas Sheriff Joseph Lombardo that Stephen Paddock “did not act alone”, too, this report continues, SVR surveillance intercepts confirmed that this known CIA arms smuggler held a meeting with one of his “associates/accomplices” on 27 September—and that was verified by a Mandalay Bay Hotel room-service receipt recording that “2 Guests” were served meals in Paddock’s hotel room on that date.   










Stephen Paddock’s associate, whom he had met on 27 September in Las Vegas, though, this report says, is named Scott Edmisten—and whose CIA “deep cover” identity shows him being a highly trained precision machinist (gunsmith attributes) working for a company named NN Inc., and whose many locations around the world allowed him to conduct “non-suspicious/covert” travel.  
Four days after his meeting with Stephen Paddock in Las Vegas, this report continues, Scott Edmisten, on 1 October, was stopped by US police forces in Washington County, Tennessee—where it was quickly discovered that his vehicle contained “bump stock” equipped semi-automatic weapons exactly like those used during the “Pyramid Sacrifice” massacreand 900 rounds of ammunition—but with Michael Knight, a spokesman for the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives quickly stating, without being asked, and without investigation, that he “didn’t see a connection to recent mass shootings”















As to the “main/central” SVR “hypothesis/theory” regarding Scott Edmisten’s association with Stephen Paddock, this report explains, is that he was a part of the estimated 4-6 gun runners working for the CIA that transported weapons that were machined “modified” (serial numbers erased) to various locations throughout the United States—and that included the last weapon ever bought by Stephen Paddock, on 28 September, described as a Ruger American .308 bolt-action rifle—and that has not yet been found.
During late June and/or early July, too, this report continues, Stephen Paddock gathered around him in Las Vegas his fellow CIA gun runners where it is believed they discussed their fears of what the FBI’s taking down of Russia Mafia leader Razhden Shulaya meant for them—with them all, and rightly so, believing that forces loyal to President Trump would be targeting them next.
Also, during this meeting Stephen Paddock had with his fellow CIA gun runners, this report chillingly notes, the “master plot” was devised on how to retaliate against President Trump, and whose first target for retribution was the Lollapalooza music concert in Chicago, wherePaddock had rented rooms overlooking this venue on 1 August, just 2 days prior to its starting—but was changed, thus causing Scott Edmisten and others of these CIA gun runners to react in fear of what was soon to occur—and as evidenced by:
On 11 September, Scott Edmisten posting under the pseudonym of “John” to the popular 4Chan Message Board three cryptic warnings stating that Las Vegas was soon to be attacked.

Just 45 minutes prior to this massacre taking place, another two of these CIA gun runners rushing to the front of the stage shouting that everyone was going to die if they didn’t leave the concert immediately.











And going from the merely chilling to downright horrific, SVR intelligence analysts in this report further show their complete agreement with Las Vegas Sheriff Joseph Lombardo who stated that Stephen Paddock had the full intention of escaping after this massacre took place—and that Paddock planned to accomplish by his firing his .50 caliper weapon into two massive tanks containing aviation fuel located next to the concert venue—and that if had happened would have created a catastrophic scenario causing the complete collapse of the entire city of Las Vegas—but that his two .50 caliper bullets fired into failed to ignite them.


















This report concludes with SVR intelligence analysts expressing their perplexity as to why US police officials don’t admit the obvious fact that Stephen Paddock was a longtime gun runner for both the CIA and Russia Mafia—and as evidenced by the massive amounts of weapons, ammunition and explosives he possessed and his extreme wealth—and that his brother, Eric Paddock, nearly confirmed was true yesterday when during an interview he said the words “Steve was an Arms…”, then fumbling caught himself before finishing the sentence. Though not contained in the body of this SVR report, an appendix to it contains “incidental” facts relating to the “Pyramid Sacrifice” massacre—the most important of which we found to be a heart stirring letter written by James Warren Melton about his son Sonny Melton—who lost his life shielding his beloved wife and best friend Heather from the carnage that surrounded them—and that, unedited, says:

My Thoughts about Sonny and heroes.
If my calculations are correct, In my 62 years, I have seen about 22,623 sunrises in my life.
As of this past Sunday morning, I had never really experienced one that I couldn’t find at least some good in and I had never, ever hated anyone. And I mean that, not anyone.
Well, as of 12:57 am Monday morning Oct. 1, 2017 I am now well acquainted with both horrible things, a hated day and a hated person.
That’s the moment I received the telephone call that everyone, especially a parent fears.
The words came fast from the phone’s speaker, too fast as I tried to wake up and shake the sleep stupid feeling off. 30 seconds later, I prayed to be sleep stupid, drunk, having a nightmare or crazy.
But, as they say, it is what it is. James Sonny, my youngest son at 29 years of age, was dead. Bullets in his back as he lay over his wife, protecting her as best he could with all he had available, his body.
Shot by some sick bastard too cowardly to even look him in his eyes as he snuffed the life out my child. Oh No, this guy did it from 32 floors up and 300 yards away.
As I understand it now, it was just bullets fired wildly into a crowd of about 20,000 country music fans. A crowd where Sonny just happened to be with his wife, listening to music.
However, this crowd turned out to be a target of several acres in size with a 99% chance to make a hit on a human body with most every single shot fired into it.
And in this sea of carnage, Sonny was a hero right up until the bullets pierced his back and lungs and he couldn’t go on.
But my tale of heroes doesn’t end there folks, not at all. As Sonny and Heather ran away from the sniper, he always kept his own body between the danger and his wife.
A running human shield. Heather says he had his hands on her shoulders and she felt him get hit and start to fall. And even though she was only a few yards from the safety of a concrete retaining wall, she stopped and turned around to kneel by his side. She made a quick exam and yelled for help as dozens of others fell around them.
Bullets hitting the concrete so near that the resulting dust irritated her eyes. But she stayed right there and started CPR there out in the open on the cold ground in a last ditch chance to save her husband. Don’t you see, Heather is a hero also.
Protected by nothing more than the grace of God’s invisible hands, she stayed with him and I’m comforted now knowing my son didn’t have to die alone.
And that’s not all! Suddenly out of the blue came two more angels. These angels were in the form of two young concert goers who chose not to hide or run away.
These two guys braved the hell of that killing field that must have resembled the Marines landing on Omaha Beach. They ran to Sonny and Heather, picked him up and carried him all the way to their pickup truck. There, they loaded Sonny and two other victims into the bed of the truck and raced to the closest hospital. One guy driving, the other helping Heather give CPR to Sonny.
We don’t even know these guys names, they asked for no praise or reward. They just said they were sorry they couldn’t have gotten to Sonny quicker. They are heroes!
But, it just wasn’t enough. Heather cried as hope slipped away and the doctors in the ER pronounced him dead. Sonny was an ER Nurse himself. Once when I asked him why, he just smiled and in a matter of fact way said “I want to help save people’s lives”. Well, he lived up to that high standard until the very bitter end.
I know I’m not the first to feel these horrible things, like grief and loss and I’ll certainly not be the last, but I sure wish I could be. Because it hurts, man I mean it really hurts.
A few years ago, I had a really good friend who was an American Indian. (Now dead from the cancer that robbed him of life in the end) His people have a prayer that he often recited that always touched my heart.
I can’t remember it word for word, but I have repeated it often in my own words. “Please God, let me live honorably and when I take my last breath, let me die standing tall protecting my family”. I haven’t had the opportunity to finalized those words yet for me, and it may not even be in my future.
But Sonny did. He stood the final test. He was Just a good guy, doing what good guys do. He was a hero.
I truly thank our Lord that we had Sonny for these past 29 years and I like to believe I even helped him a little grow into the great young man he was.
Susan, Janie and I made the 5 hour flight to Los Vegas without a total breakdown only because of the employees of Southwest Airlines who went above and beyond to help, one flight attendant even took us by the hand to his personal car and drove us to find Heather in this strange city. I say this so that I don’t loose sight of the fact that there also good people everywhere.
My hatred of the shooter may diminish given enough time, again I’m not the first to bare this burden. But right now, that’s not an option.
As an ex cop, I share the frustration of the SWAT officer we heard about who was crying because the shooter killed himself before the cops could breach the door and take care of that ugly business themselves. Like I said, a coward.
To all the folks who have tried to call or text me or Janie or Susan, please don’t be mad if we didn’t answer. Or If I’ve misspelled words in this letter, it’s difficult to see clearly through tear filled eyes.
We are all just overwhelmed right now. Prayers for Sonny, Heather, Susan and Janie and I are appreciated beyond belief. The grief has us now firmly in its relentless grip and this evil day has lasted way too long.
Once again my prayer is to just be sleep stupid and have this sadness go away, even for just a few hours till I wake to my new, changed and darker world.
Sonny was a hero.
