The former UFO investigator for the Ministry of Defense argues that UFOs are no longer a fringe topic.
Pope, who investigated countless UFO reports for the MoD between 1985 and 2006, is certainly no stranger to the subject and remains very open-minded about the possibility of alien visitation.
In a recent article written for the New York Post, Pope outlines why he believes that UFOs, far from being the domain of fringe conspiracy theorists, may have finally entered in to the mainstream.
In particular, he references the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP) - the Pentagon's own UFO research initiative that ran in secret from 2007 to 2012.
The program was initiated by then U.S. Senator Harry Reid - himself a vocal proponent of UFOs.
More recently, the revelation that multiple US Navy pilots have witnessed unidentified objects flying at impossible speeds - coupled with the US Navy's move to standardize UFO reporting - seems to indicate that UFOs are something that the US government takes very seriously.
"It's difficult to avoid the conclusion that there's a bigger picture here," Pope concludes. "The pace of events is picking up, and we seem to be building up to something."
"Something is happening. Something new. Something big."
