Breakthrough Listen releases ET hunt data

Project officials have released over one petabyte of data from the ongoing hunt for intelligent extraterrestrial life.
Launched back in January 2016, the $100 million Breakthrough Listen project is the most comprehensive search of its kind ever undertaken.
Supported by scientists such as the late Professor Stephen Hawking, the endeavour has utilised some of the world's most advanced telescopes to scour the heavens for signs that we are not alone.
Now, more than three years after the search began, project officials have announced the release of a whopping 1 million gigabytes of data - the largest data release ever in relation to the hunt for ET.
"This data release is a tremendous milestone for the Breakthrough Listen team," said project scientist Danny Price. "We scoured thousands of hours of observations of nearby stars, across billions of frequency channels."
"We found no evidence of artificial signals from beyond Earth, but this doesn't mean there isn't intelligent life out there: we may just not have looked in the right place yet, or peered deep enough to detect faint signals."
The Breakthrough Listen project is expected to continue until at least 2026, so it will be very interesting to see what, if anything, the team finds over the next few years.
Suffice to say, the search is far from over.
