Celestial Treats on Tap in Late October for Skywatchers + Spooky Stargazing for Halloween Night

Skywatchers to get special treat. At the end of the month, from October 29th to the 31st, look west after sunset for an increasingly slimmer crescent, that appears higher in the sky each day. On October 28, 2019, at 3:38 Universal Time, will be the New Moon. The alignment of the Sun, the Moon, and Earth, leaves the side of the Moon that faces Earth in complete darkness. The best time to go stargazing is the days before, during and soon after each New Moon. During this time the Moon is not visible in the sky and therefore does not wash out the light from fainter stars. Let's go stargazing! On October 29, the waxing ccrescent Moon swings past Venus after sunset. On October 30, the Moon will be near the red supergiant star, Antares. On Halloween, (October 31) the Moon pairs up with the giant planet Jupiter, and the first day of November, it is moving toward Saturn. Happy Halloween and Clear skies everyone!
