Officials across multiple government agencies are now working to determine who is behind the Colorado drones.
Sightings of the mysterious drones, which were initially reported over Colorado's Phillips and Yuma counties, have since spread to multiple additional counties as well as to neighboring Nebraska.
Witnesses have reported seeing the drones flying in formation over rural fields between 7pm and 10pm in the evening as well as hovering over houses and empty fields for hours at a time.
While previously it was reported that government agencies had been unable to explain who was behind the drones, it has since come to light that the FAA has launched an official investigation.
In a recent email to Reuters, FAA spokesman Ian Gregor stated that "multiple FAA divisions and government agencies are investigating these reports."
US Senator Cory Gardner has also commented on the FAA's investigation, stating - "I'm encouraged that they've opened a full investigation to learn the source and purpose of the drones."
As things stand however, no definitive explanation has been forthcoming.
