Japan's Defense Minister Taro Kono has responded to the Pentagon's recent release of declassified UFO footage.
Two years ago, the Japanese government spoke out on the topic of UFOs by stating that "no confirmation has been made of their existence".
During a news conference on April 28th however, Defense Minister Taro Kono indicated that the subject hadn't been forgotten about when he suggested that he wanted Japan's own Self-Defense Forces to come up with a plan of action for dealing with any future encounters with such objects.
"We would like to establish procedures in the event an encounter is made with a UFO," he said.
"If video can be taken (of a UFO encounter) and if a report is possible, then a report will be made. Discussions will be held with the Air SDF about just what can be done."
Kono's comments follow on from the US government's recent release of three declassified clips showing unidentified objects being pursued by US Navy pilots during two separate incidents.
The Japanese Defense Minister also confirmed that he would be contacting Pentagon officials about the footage.
Interestingly, despite expressing skepticism about the topic of UFOs, Kono seemed to know more than he was letting on when asked about his views on the supernatural and psychic abilities.
"That is a corporate secret," he said.
