Russia is attempting to beat the US by shooting the first feature film in space before Tom Cruise does.
Back in May, NASA confirmed that it would be working alongside veteran Hollywood actor Tom Cruise on a new movie that would be at least partially filmed aboard the ISS.
The action-adventure will also reportedly involve SpaceX, suggesting that perhaps the private space firm will be providing transport to ferry equipment and/or personnel to the orbiting outpost.
If it goes ahead, the movie will be the first feature film ever shot in space.
Not content with missing out however, Russia has since revealed that it is seeking a leading actress to venture into space as part of a rival plan to beat the US to the punch.
A competition has been launched by the country's largest TV channel to find "a real superhero" who will "go to the stars... at the same time as becoming a big international star."
Applicants need to be fit, well proportioned and most importantly... Russian.
If everything goes to plan, the new movie will be filmed in October 2021 aboard the International Space Station, which is around the same time that the US Tom Cruise movie will be filmed.
"This is not science fiction, this is a very realistic version of what may happen in the near future," Channel One CEO Konstantin Ernst said of the movie's plot.
Filming aboard the orbital outpost is expected to take approximately 10 days.
It remains to be seen who will get their movie finished first.
