Rumours that President Trump was going to pardon Julian Assange started flying across the internet following a tweet by Pastor Mark Burns on Monday.
Burns, who broke the news on Twitter, is a Trump supporter and an evangelical minister, televangelist and political candidate who is the pastor of the Harvest Praise & Worship Center in South Carolina.
***Update: Within a couple of hours of his original tweet, Pastor Burns acknowledged that his information source had been ‘faulty’ and retracted his statement.***
Trump has had several calls to pardon the WikiLeaks founder.
Democrat lawmaker Tulsi Gabbard is among those who has been suggesting that the president pardons Julian Assange
She has been urging President Trump to issue pardons for both Julian Assange and whistleblower Edward Snowden, reminding him that they helped “expose” the “deep state.”

Snowden had retweeted the pastor’s original post and like many others was hoping that the news would be trueSnowden has himself lobbied for a pardon for Assange…I very much hope this is true. The case against Assange is based on a legal theory that would criminalize the work of every journalist, both at home and abroad. https://t.co/A667OXoWq7— Edward Snowden (@Snowden) December 14, 2020
Please note: while we all hoped that the new would be true, sources close to WikiLeaks say they had not had any official updates from the Trump administration regarding a pardon.
The idea of Trump considering a pardon for Assange is not entirely unbelievable.
Trump had previously considered pardoning both Snowden and Assange.
We hope that the president is watching.
Pastor Burn’s original tweet gained over 46,000 ‘likes’ in less than an hour, a strong testament to the wide support for a pardon being issued.
