The March Equinox signals the beginning of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere and Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. Because Earth is tilted on its axis, there are only two days a year when the sun shines down exactly over the equator, and the day/night line – called the terminator – runs straight from north to south. In the Northern Hemisphere, the March equinox marks the beginning of spring – meaning that our half of Earth is slowly tilting towards the sun, giving us longer days and more sunlight, and moving us out of winter and into spring and summer. The March Equinox happens on March 20, 2021, at 09:37 UTC. That’s March 20, at 04:37 a.m. Central Daylight Time for people in the central U.S. For all of us on this March 2021 Equinox, the Moon will be in a first quarter phase. Step outside and look at your southwestern sky after sunset to see the Moon forming a celestial triangle with Mars and the bright red star Aldebaran. Happy and Healthy March Equinox Everyone! Be Well and Be Safe!
