Your Guide to Planetary Energies for
December 10 to 16, 2012

THE PACE of life has quickened yet again. We may feel a bit like one of those cartoon characters who, as they are hurrying somewhere, spend a good portion of the time running as fast as they can in mid-air before finally engaging forward motion.
This may be our usual experience for this time of year, when we load our plates (literally and figuratively) with much more than we can sanely or physically handle. And this year, on top of that usual seasonal overwhelm, we are feeling an extra energetic "push" due to this month marking the end of the Mayan calendar.
We don't know for sure if the Mayans knew something specific about this time in history, or if there are other explanations for their calendar stopping at this point. But, no matter the original reason, the shared human expectation around these "End Times" -- whether we anticipate doomsday or ascension -- is creating a rather large wave in the mass consciousness field.
This wave is one we can ride, and we can actually choose where it will take us -- but we have to maintain our balance, like an adept surfer who knows how to make the finite adjustments needed to stay on the board as it traverses the great waves.
SEVERAL CLIENTS have written or asked about my perspective on the energies this month. Using traditional astrology, which considers the positions of the planets in our solar system and how they relate to Earth, the outstanding event on December 21, 2012 is an exact "yod" configuration involving Pluto, Saturn and Jupiter.
This type of configuration gets a lot of attention because it is also called "the finger of God" -- which can either sound hopeful or condemning, depending on your religious upbringing. In this particular yod, both Saturn and Pluto are pointing toward Jupiter.
With Jupiter at the "apex" of the yod, we can tend to be less organized and more impractical than usual (oh joy!). But, the benefit of having Jupiter in this position is that it indicates a readiness to adjust old beliefs and mindsets, and to allow a new perspectives to awaken.
HERE'S a slightly abridged version of what astrologer Bil Tierney writes about this type of yod:
"It inspires us to become more effectively aligned with the needs of our inner spirits, usually due to a seemingly providential twist of fate. Jupiter's natural optimism and urge for expansion suggest that the individual is able to adjust very well to this destined transition, and often feels confident and positive about the new course of events. The individual rarely doubts the rightness of the new direction, acting as if operating under some higher guidance and protection."
Of course, the positive effects of this yod will depend on our individual ego involvement -- it could be very easy for someone to ride this particular wave believing that they are the next messiah. But with practical Saturn involved in this yod, most of us will benefit from the upliftment rather than allowing it to push us over the top.

THIS WEEK, Thursday appears to be the most pivotal day. Uranus stations direct on that day, preparing us for another leap forward in consciousness.
Uranus has been retrograde since July 13, giving us five months to get more fully in touch with our own needs for freedom and autonomy. Over the next few weeks, as Uranus gradually picks up forward momentum, we are supported in making the external changes based on the new awareness we have gained.
WE ALSO HAVE a New Moon in Sagittarius on Thursday. The Sabian symbol for this New Moon is interesting:
"A Chinese laundry: Making use of one's special racial-cultural background in order to survive and prosper in an alien environment."
I must admit, at first it was hard for me to connect this symbolic image with the current astrological themes of consciousness expansion and change. And yet, the interpretation of the symbol by Dane Rudhyar helps a bit:
"There is no longer a question of imitating the ways of others, but instead of maintaining one's own integrity in situations that neither give value for, nor favor, what one basically is. What is asked here is self-containment -- and good humor!"
As we make more and more of our choices based on the true knowing of our Self, we are called to build lives of greater integrity, less imitation, and less reliance on the opinions or perspectives of others. And thankfully, Mercury and Venus entering fun-loving Sagittarius this week should help with the "good humor" part of the equation!
