Whistleblower Edward Snowden responded to the White House’s denial that US intelligence agencies were responsible for blowing up the Nord Stream pipelines by pointing out that they also once denied involvement in the Bay of Pigs invasion.
Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Seymour Hersh published an article yesterday in which he asserted that the pipelines were destroyed by the US as part of a covert operation.
According to Hersh’s sources, the explosives were planted in June 2022 by US Navy divers under the guise of the BALTOPS 22 NATO exercise and were detonated three months later with a remote signal sent by a sonar buoy.
One source told Hersh that the plotters knew the covert operation was an “act of war,” with some in the CIA and State Department warning, “Don’t do this. It’s stupid and will be a political nightmare if it comes out.”
Both the White House and the CIA responded to the report by vehemently denying its authenticity, claiming the story was “utterly false.”
The destruction of the pipelines occurred after US President Joe Biden and Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland both asserted the US would “bring an end” to the natural gas pipeline which connected Germany with Russia.
According to whistleblower Edward Snowden, the denials are completely worthless given that the US previously denied involvement in operations it was later confirmed to have spearheaded.

Can you think of any examples from history of a secret operation that the White House was responsible for, but strongly denied? Besides, you know, that little "mass surveillance" kerfuffle.

“Can you think of any examples from history of a secret operation that the White House was responsible for, but strongly denied?” Snowden tweeted.
“Besides, you know, that little ‘mass surveillance’ kerfuffle,” he added.
Snowden included a UPI news report from April 1961 in which US Secretary of State Dean Rusk denied the Bay of Pigs had been “staged from American soil,” with Rusk telling the media, “the Cuban affair was one for the Cubans themselves to settle.”
The Bay of Pigs invasion was of course a CIA operation from the very start with the objective of causing a collapse of Fidel Castro’s Communist government.
The agency’s museum now acknowledges it to have been “an unqualified disaster,” with the majority of the 1400 invaders having been captured or killed.
Snowden’s mention of the “mass surveillance kerfuffle” is a reference to the 2013 bombshell revelations, proven by documents shared by Snowden himself, that the US government was spying on American citizens without a warrant.
Prominent US intelligence officials denied such programs existed during Congressional testimony, only for the evidence to prove that they were lying.
Meanwhile, what should have been the biggest story of the year so far, Hersh’s revelations on US involvement in the pipeline attacks has barely been covered by the mainstream media.
