The hearing will reportedly focus on addressing concerns over the growing number of UFO (or UAP) reports.
Unidentified Flying Objects (or, as they are known these days, Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) have been appearing in the news more and more over the last few years, from bombshell document leaks to actual footage of UAPs recorded by US Navy pilots - the phenomenon has reached fever pitch.
This is why, on Wednesday of this week, the United States Senate Committee on Armed Services is holding an open hearing on the topic in an effort to address growing concerns over the sheer number of cases that have arisen in recent years.
Efforts will also be made to push for increased transparency on the topic and to acquire additional funding dedicated to the investigation of the phenomenon.
Dr Sean Kirkpatrick, who heads up the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), will be one of the more prominent figures speaking at the hearing.
The department's chair, Democrat Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, had previously criticized the Department of Defence for not providing the promised funding for two years in a row.
"The lack of full funding for AARO is a significant concern," she told the Roswell Daily Record.
"We need to ensure that our government is taking the UAP issue seriously and dedicating the necessary resources to improve our understanding and response capabilities."
