floods force thousands to flee homes along the east coast

The extreme weather that has blighted Australia in recent weeks took a
bizarre twist today as dozens of beachfront towns became submerged in up
to four feet of sea foam. Wave after wave of frothy suds, whipped up in
storms as powerful waves force air into the water, surged onshore
blanketing roads and parks and bringing entire towns to a
standstill. But while the rare lather brought hundreds of children out
of their homes to play in its bubbles, the bad weather that spawned it
also bore tragedy to the region as floodwaters continued to rise,
forcing thousands of homeowners to flee for their lives. Four people
have died so far, including a three-year-old boy who was struck by a
falling tree in gale force winds in Brisbane yesterday as he sheltered
with his 34-year-old pregnant mother. She is understood to be in a
critical condition with broken bones and head injuries. MORE

Holy shit!! That's really sad, daaaaaaamn!!

That woman who got hit by the tree was out sightseeing!!!! There was absolutely no reason for her to be there and have her kids out in that insane weather! She will bear that decision her whole life now!

It's absolutel tragedy when someone loses their life in these circumstances but we are told hundreds of times during these events to STAY HOME STAY INDOORS DONT TRY AND CROSS FLOOD WATERS and consistently there are morons who take no notice and then put our emergency services personell at risk, it's ridiculous and these people make me really angry!

I hope I wasn't too harsh but our local swift water response team lost all their rescue equipment and nearly lost their own lives rescuing 3 people from a local creek!! 2 of those people survived, the other one they found dead upstream yesterday! Tragedy but avoidable!

NanneeRose, I do not think you were harsh at all- People do this stupid shit all the time, even after they have been told not to, so guess what? It sucks to be them,and if they can't keep out of danger, just because they think,'well, it can't and ain't gonna happen to me' attitude, they deserve what they get- If they want to be stupid, they'll die that way- I have no compassion for a goddamn idiot, never did, never will-They reap what they sew-How's that for 'harsh'?

No I agree terbs you reap what you sow in this world but the trouble with that is sometimes they'll take an innocent with them! 99% of flood deaths are avoidable!!
