About 700 people showed up for the unveiling of an occult idol named Baphomet in Detroit July 25. Besides paying for a ticket, participants had to sign over their souls to Satan.
This Faustian agreement said: “I agree that by signing this document under any name, given or adopted, actual or pseudonymous, I am hereby avowing my soul to Satan (aka Abbadon, aka Lucifer, aka Beelzebub, aka The Antichrist),” the document read in part. “I do so knowing that He (aka The Fallen One, aka The Father of Lies) or any of His representatives may choose to collect my eternal soul at any time, with or without notice. I understand that my signature or mark representing any name, real or made up, upon these papers constitutes a lasting and eternal contract, and that there will be no further negotiations on the matter of my eternal soul.”

One Catholic priest warned any Satan worshipers in an article in the Catholic website, Aletheia, “You have no idea what you’re dealing with.”
The unveiling revealed a 9-foot-tall, 2,000-pound bronze statue of Baphomet, a goat-headed winged human figure with horns and hoofs. He is seated, flanked by a boy and a girl, and rests beneath a pentagram. It was unveiled in an undisclosed location to throw off protesters.
Guests were washed in red light shining down from the rafters at the venue as “dark punk” bands played and DJs performed from a stage located beneath a lighted, upside-down crucifix. Satanic Temple officials delivered speeches and a pair of shirtless men held candles on either side of the statue, prior to its unveiling.
Fear not. The pseudonymous Jex Blackmore, who directs the Satanic Temple’s Detroit chapter and organized the unveiling, told TIME on July 26 that Baphomet symbolizes a “reconciliation of opposites, emblematic of the willingness to embrace, and even celebrate differences.”
Time quoted from the group’s website:
The Satanic Temple holds to the basic premise that undue suffering is bad, and that which reduces suffering is good. We do not believe in symbolic “evil.”
Fox News reported that the Temple says its concept of Lucifer is “as a literary figure.”
“The mission of The Satanic Temple is to encourage benevolence and empathy among all people,” the group’s website states.
Time continued in its report:
… the group does not “promote a belief in a personal Satan.” By their logic, Satan is an abstraction, or, as Nancy Kaffer wrote for The Daily Beast last year, “a literary figure, not a deity — he stands for rationality, for skepticism, for speaking truth to power, even at great personal cost.”
But temple participants don’t realize they are “playing with fire,” said Jesuit Father James Martin of America magazine in Aletheia.
“These people have no clue what kind of forces they are dealing with. In my life as a Jesuit priest, and especially as a spiritual director, I have seen people struggling with real-life evil.”
The Catholic Church, along with most other Christians, believe evil in this world is promoted by Satan and his demons. Christians have a long history of casting out demons through exorcism, as Jesus did.
One of the fallacies of the current age is that humans do not have to believe in or need God or the devil but can create an utopian paradise on their own. Human Babels have produced such atrocities as Nazism, communism and the Islamic ISIS, whose murders and cruelties almost defy the imagination, so that you could say, “I can’t believe human beings are capable of this.” But those influenced by beings from an infernal world are capable of anything.
