Former Mets Pitching Prospect Matt Pobereyko Dead at 31

Former New York Mets pitching prospect Matt Pobereyko, who most recently played in Mexico, died suddenly of a heart attack on Friday. He was 31.
News of Pobereyko’s passing was first reported by MLB insider Hector Gomez, but several of his former teams have since confirmed his death.
“The Sioux City Explorers regretfully announce the passing of pitcher Matt Pobereyko on February 24, 2023,” the Iowa-based professional minor league team where Pobereyko spent time between 2019 and 2022, said in a statement.

“Words cannot express the grief and sorrow we feel today for Matt’s family, friends, teammates and his fans,” Explorers manager Steve Montgomery said.
“He truly loved being an Explorer and being a part of this community. He was as fierce of a friend as he was as a competitor. We will miss him as a baseball player, but even more so as a friend.”

Born on Christmas Eve in Hammond, Indiana, Pobereyko played college baseball at Kentucky Wesleyan College before signing a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2016.

Former US Swimming Sensation Jamie Cail Found Dead on Floor in Virgin Islands; Investigation Launched

Police have confirmed they are investigating the sudden death of former swimming champion Jamie Cail.
Cail, 42, was found dead six days ago by her boyfriend. The 1997 Pan Pacs gold medallist was living in the Virgin Islands and was taken to hospital on Tuesday (US).
She was administered CPR but pronounced dead on arrival.
The Virgin Islands Police Department said in a statement: “This case is presently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.”
The boyfriend told authorities at the time that he had been at bar and left after midnight.
“Upon his arrival, he discovered his girlfriend on the floor,” police said.
Police were alerted to the death at 2.39am (US) on Tuesday.
“At approximately 12:08am, a male left a local bar to check on his girlfriend at their residence.,” the statement read.
“Upon his arrival, he discovered his girlfriend on the floor. With assistance from a friend, the male was able to get the female to a nearby vehicle and transported the female to the Myrah Keating-Smith Clinic.
“Once at the clinic, CPR was rendered and 911 was notified, however, the female succumbed to her ailment. The female was identified by her boyfriend as 42-year-old, Ms. Jamie Cail from New Hampshire.”
Cail was a teenage swimming star in the US in the 1990s.
