The April Pink Moon 2018 will rise this month in a stunning display of lunar showmanship. But when will the Pink Moon rise and what is the best time to see it in the sky? The April full moon, known as the Pink Moon, will rise towards the end of the month between Sunday April 29 and Monday April 30 – depending on where you live. Skygazers across Europe will have a chance to see the full moon peak an hour after midnight on April 30. In the US, the full moon will appear a few hours earlier on Sunday. In Europe the Pink Moon will peak at 12.58am UTC (1.58am BST), whereas in eastern US the moon will peak at 8.58pm EDT on Sunday. In London, the moon will begin to rise over the horizon at 8.47pm BST, rising at 111º. The moon will then set the following Tuesday at 6.43am BST. What is the Pink Moon? Unfortunately the moon will not turn a bright pink colour at the end of the month, but the full moon will be spectacular on its own. According to Royal Observatory Greenwich, the April full moon derives its names from a species of pink early blooming wildflower, observed by Northern Native Americans. The Old Farmer’s Almanac says this flower is the wild ground phlox, or the “moss pink”. The tiny flowering plant is characterised by its various shades of rich pink, is native to North America and blooms in the spring. In other cultures, the April moon is also known as the Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon or the Fish Moon. https://www.express.co.uk/news/scienc...
